nPinnotherestype genus of the family Pinnotheridae: pea crabs
Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
npinnotheresA genus of small crustaceans, typical of the family Pinnotheriidæ, so called because they inhabit the shells of pinnas and other bivalve mollusks, as oysters; the pea-crabs. One of the best-known is P. ostreum, the little crab frequently found in the American oyster (Ostrea virginica), which when cooked is of a delicate flesh-color with a red band. P. pisum, the European pea-crab proper, inhabits mussels. P. veterum was known to the ancients as inhabiting the pinnas in the Mediterranean. See cut under peacrab.
But I was going to show you this little pea-crab, Pinnotheres.
