    • n erubescite An ore of copper, so called because of the bright colors of its surface when tarnished. Its surface is often iridescent with hues of blue, purple, and red: hence called variegated copper ore, and by miners peacock ore and horse-flesh ore, and by the French cuivre panaché. It is a sulphid of copper and iron, with a varying proportion of the latter. Also called bornite.
