    • n contopus A genus of small clamatorial birds, of the family Tyrannidæ, characterized, among the little tyrant flycatchers, by their extremely small feet. The common wood-pewee of North America, C. virens, is the type. The genus also contains the northern flycatcher (C. borealis), Coues's flycatcher (C. pertinax), and other species, chiefly of the warmer parts of America.
