- n ambloplites A genus of fishes, of the family Centrarchidœ, having villiform pterygoid teeth and numerous anal spines. A. rupestris is a species called rock-bass, resembling the black-bass, but having the dorsal and anal fins more developed and the body shorter and deeper. Also written Amblyoplites.
