- n ptyas A genus of Colubrinæ or snakes. They have the posterior maxillary teeth not abruptly longer than the preceding ones, rostral plate narrow and free laterally, one median dorsal row of scales, internasals separate from nasals, several lorals, and two or more preoculars. P. mucosus is known as the rat-snake.
