    • n tucan The Mexican pocket-gopher, Geomys mexicanus. It is one of the largest gophers, 10 or 11 inches long, or, with the tail, from 13 to 14 inches, and resembles the quachil, but has soft, sleek fur. The incisors are each bisected by a single median furrow, which distinguishes the animal from all United States gophers except G. castanops. The tail and feet are clothed as usual in the genus. The coloration is a pure chestnut-brown, the hind feet and tail are mostly whitish, and sometimes there are small white patches on the under parts. The under fur is plumbeous, and some specimens vary from the normal chestnut to a plumbago or anthracite color. Also tugan, tuca, tuza.
