In science:

We have considered two different models, widely discussed in literature to describe orbital physics in titanites, in the context of Raman and x-ray scattering experiments.
Theory of Raman and Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering from Collective Orbital Excitations in YTiO$_3$
The models predictions, obtained within the same level of approximations, are compared to the experimental data on Raman (Fig.1) and on x-ray (Figs. 3 and 5) scattering in titanites.
Theory of Raman and Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering from Collective Orbital Excitations in YTiO$_3$
Future RIXS experiments in titanites would be useful to verify these expectations. A previous estimate5 from neutron spin wave data35 puts the orbital exchange constant Jorb at 60 meV.
Theory of Raman and Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering from Collective Orbital Excitations in YTiO$_3$
To summarize, we may conclude that the existing Raman and RIXS data in titanites are better described by the superexchange model.
