- n sulphurwort An Old World umbelliferous herb, Peucedanum officinale, with large umbels of pale-yellow flowers. The root has a yellow resinous juice, and an odor comparable to that of sulphur. It contains peucedanin, and was formerly used in medicine; it is still somewhat used in veterinary practice. Also sulphurweed and sulphur-root.
