nsetwallA name early transferred from the Oriental drug zedoary to the valerian. The root was highly popular for its'sanatory properties, mixed with many dishes to make them wholesome. The original species was Valeriana Pyrenaica, a plant cultivated in gardens, now naturalized in parts of Great Britain. Latterly the name has been understood of the common officinal valerian, V. officinalis.
