petromastoidOf or pertaining to the petrous and mastoid parts of the temporal bone: as, petromastoid cells; the petromastoid bone.
npetromastoidThe petromastoid bone. In man at birth the petromastoid is a distinct bone, consisting chiefly of petrosal elements from which mastoid pails are as yet scarcely developed. It soon becomes confluent with other parts of the compound temporal bone, leaving traces of its original separation in the Glaserian fissure and the canal of Huguier on the outer side of the bone, and the Eustachian tube and tensor tympani canal on the other side.
