    • n ophthalmite In Crustacea, an ophthalmic peduncle; one of the movable stems or stalks upon which are borne the eyes of the stalk-eyed or podophthalmous crustaceans, as a crab or lobster. Morphologically it is an appendage of the first cephalic somite, and may consist of two joints, the basiophthalmite and the podophthalmite, as it does in the crawfish.
