Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- Isoptera The termites or white ants regarded as a suborder of Neuroptera. They have large, equal, and naked wings not folded in repose, well-developed manducatory jaws, and short many-jointed antennæ. The larvæ and pupæ resemble the neuters; the latter are wingless. This suborder is represented by the family Termitidæ alone.
