- n frasera A North American genus of gentianaceous plants, having a single erect stem from a mostly biennial thick bitter root, and numerous usually dull-white flowers. There are 8 species, of which F. Carolinensis is the only one that is found in the Atlantic States. Its root, known as American columbo, resembles gentian in its properties, and is used as a tonic.
