Epiplastron
Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
-
- n epiplastron The anterior lateral one of the nine pieces of which the plastron of a turtle may consist. It has been usually called episternum, from a mistaken view of its sternal character. There are a pair of epiplastra, one on each side of the single median entoplastron, and in front of the hyoplastra. See plastron, second figure under carapace, and second cut under Chelonia.
