ndunfishCodfish cured by dunning, especially for use on the table uncooked. The fish are fitst slack-salted and cured, then taken down cellar and allowed to “give up,” and then dried again. Great pains are taken in this mode of preparation, even to the extent of covering the “fagots” with bed-quilts to keep them clean.
Dunfish, in the old newspapers, were often called "dumb'd fish"; and they perchance come to him as to one of their kindred.
