Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
curviserialArranged in curved or spiral ranks: in botany, applied by Bravais to a theoretical form of leaf-arrangement in which the angle of divergence is incommensurable with the circumference, and consequently no leaf can be exactly above any preceding one. The ordinary forms of phyllotaxy indicated by the fractions ½, ⅓, ⅖, etc., approximate more and more closely to this, and the deviation in the 5/13 and 8/21 arrangements is inappreciable. Such forms, therefore, are sometimes so designated.
