- n Cibotium in some classification systems placed in family Cyatheaceae: ornamental tree ferns with coarse gracefully drooping fronds
Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- n cibotium A genus of mainly arborescent cyatheaceous ferns, allied to Dicksonia, but distinguished technically from that genus by having the outer valve of the bivalvate indusium larger, more highly modified, decidedly coriaceous and cucullate. There are about 10 species, confined to the tropics of both hemispheres. C. Barometz, an Asiatic species, has long been known as the Scythian lamb. See Agnus Scythicus, under agnus.
