    • n carthamin A preparation from safflower, Carthamus tinctorius. In thin films it appears of a gold-green hue; against the light it appears red. It is used for surface coloring or dyeing. When repeatedly dissolved and precipitated it becomes safflower-carmine. Mixed with French chalk it forms rouge, which is used as a cosmetic.
