- n amylene A hydrocarbon (C5H10) obtained by the dehydration of amylic alcohol by means of zinc chlorid, etc. Amylene is a light, limpid, colorless liquid having a faint odor. At ordinary temperatures it speedily evaporates. It possesses anesthetic properties, and has been tried as a substitute for chloroform, but unsuccessfully, as it has proved to be extremely dangerous.
